The rare and exciting opportunity to view one of the most complete Ford Falcon GT collections in the country is being held next weekend to help fundraise for the Edendale Community Swimming Pool.
The Edendale Shed Raid will give people the chance to admire a number of Ford Falcon GTs whilst helping raise money to go towards a new roof for the community swimming pool.
Edendale Community Pool Society president Rebecca Boutherway said around $150,000 was required to attain a new roof for the swimming pool.
"Unfortunately it's quite a substantial amount... The whole roof needs replacing, including the eaves.
"The pool is used so much over the school holidays by the community, there's lessons there and everything. We need to get that (replacement) done ASAP," she said.
Mrs Boutherway's parents, Roger and Diane Whyte, own the collection of cars, with her dad building the customised shed specifically to house the treasured vehicles.
"He grew up loving Fords. His dream car, he said, was anything with a V8 — they're all V8s."
The very first car he bought was a 1967 XR GT Falcon, affectionately known as Elsie, and from there it "grew into an obsession".
Mrs Boutherway said the comprehensive collection of models went right through to 2016 and this would be the first time it would be open to the public.
"He's got quite a collection there. It's a collection to be envied by car enthusiasts, whether you're a Ford or Holden fan."
Mrs Boutherway said she hoped to have as many people through the doors as possible.
"It's just a must see.
"It's a pretty rare collection — one of the most completed Ford Falcon GT collections in New Zealand."
