Te Anau has been added to the schedule for Southland's one-stop shop for jobs and career advice, due to the demand for seasonal work.

The Southland Pop-Up Job Shop is returning for its second year to provide a helping hand for job seekers in Southland and is expanding across the region with pop-up shops to open in Invercargill, Gore and Te Anau during the month of April.

The Southland-born initiative to connect those in the region with employment opportunities was extremely well received last year, with 520 people visiting the Invercargill Pop-Up Job shop.

Venture Southland labour market coordinator Kirsten Diack said Te Anau had been chosen to host the shop for a day due to the nature of seasonal work in the area.

"With the peak tourism season now coming to a close, the pop up job shop will help locals to find employment opportunities locally."

It was an excellent opportunity for those starting out in the workforce, unemployed or looking for a change in career, she said.

"The shop provides a relaxed and friendly environment in which connections can be made with employment support agencies and local employers," she said.

The success of last year's pop-up job shop has encouraged the expansion of the shop not only in Te Anau, but Gore as well.

"We are excited to have expanded the locations of the shop so that more people are able to realise the extent of employment opportunities available across the region," she said.

The initiative is part of Venture Southland's coordinated response to Southland's people shortage and aligns well with the Southland Regional Development Strategy goal of attracting 10,000 more people to the region by 2025.

The initiative is being supported by the Southland Chamber of Commerce and Southern Directionz, who will have staff on site to provide assistance with creating effective CVs and lasting impressions in job interviews.

The shop will provide local employers the opportunity to display vacancies free of charge and connect with local job seekers.

"This is just another way that we are working to future-proof Southland's labour market."

Invercargill's Pop-Up Shop will be held at 54 Tay Street from Monday, April 16 through to Friday 20 from 9.30am till 5.30pm and on Saturday 21 from 10am till 2pm.

Gore's event will be held on Irk Street next to Smiths City car park on Wednesday, April 18 from 10am till 4pm. Te Anau's will be at 43 Town Centre on Thursday April 19 from 10am till 4pm.
